What is the tradition of Mothers Day?
A love of the “old” and celebrating the stories of a pre-loved object is a huge part of our ethos here at Vintage and Flowers. So we did a little bit of digging of our own, not in our beds and borders, but into the history of Mothers Day to see what we could find…
During the 16th century, villages and townspeople would return on the 4th Sunday in Lent for a service to their ‘mother church’ – the main church or cathedral of the area. Anyone who did this was commonly said to have gone “a-mothering”. ‘Mothering Sunday’ then became a day when domestic servants were given a day off to visit their mother church, usually with their own mothers and other family members. Typically the only time that whole families could gather together, it naturally became a day of celebration and togetherness. Perhaps this echoes true in your life at the moment too?
Flowers are the perfect symbol to celebrate the changing seasons (after all, Mothers Day this year arrives a week into the official start of Spring!) and what better way to celebrate togetherness than by coming together to enjoy a shared experience?
Just a stones throw away from Newcastle and Durham, create your own bouquet working with beautiful, British flowers. Learn how to wrap and finish your design with a wide array of vintage ribbon. Go away with a lovely bouquet each and a big smile on your faces. And just in case spring has not quite sprung yet, we’ll have the fire lit, hot drinks and sweet treats ready and waiting for your arrival. As per our ethos here at Vintage and Flowers, we work with eco friendly flowers that have been locally or British grown. We never use plastic or artificial foam in our workshops or bouquets.
